Discoveries and sensations

In summer, the high mountains offer numerous walks or longer hikes, and many other pleasures. There are dozens of signposted paths, one of which, the Way of St. James de Compostella, will captivate you during your hikes in the mountains. Amateur cyclists can measure their performance against that of the great champions on the Col de Portet d'Aspet as it is often part of the Tour de France route.

The towns of Castillon and St. Girons offer public outdoor swimming pools to those who do not prefer to refresh themselves in the clear cold water of mountain streams.

Orgibet (5km) has good tennis facilities. Sentein and Argein offer horse-riding and at Moulis visitors are invited to try hang-gliding.

If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, 15 km away, with little effort, you can explore one of the many caves in the local area. Rio sec, which was discovered in 1930, is one of the deepest in the world. Others are much more accessible.

At La Bastide de Sérou is a golf course and also the chance to ride on one of the renowned Pyrenean horses, the Merens.

The ski season lasts from December to March. While you are on a family holiday you may find it very pleasant to spend a day at a ski station where you can hire all the necessary equipment for skiing or snowboarding. In addition to skiing on piste you may also hire skis for cross-country hikes or raquettes for walking. The nearest ski station is at Mourtis (25km)

Traditions

Local culture continues to thrive in the villages of Bellongue Valley where, from May to October, families are reunited in the traditional fêtes of music and feasting, to which everybody is welcome.
